Phil Jackson must be preparing to limit the expectations for his Knicks, because he made some interesting comments after Wednesdays 24 point blowout loss to the Chicago Bulls.
“Not ready for showtime, were we guys?” the Knicks president said to reporters before getting into the passenger seat of his SUV.
Afterward, Jackson was asked how long he thought it would take for the Knicks to be competitive in his first full season as president.
“I can’t say how long it’s going to take,” he said.
Jackson was hired last march to retool the Knicks franchise, and has done a decent job of overhauling some of the organization so far. Jackson let go head coach Mike Woodson, and brought in one of his former players Derek Fisher to be head coach. Jackson also created some turnover on the roster by trading Tyson Chandler to the Dallas Mavericks for Jose Calderon, Shane Larkin, and a couple of second round picks. I don’t think anyone thought that this Knicks job would be an easy fix, and Phil Jackson is certainly tempering expectations.
