You have to SMU an A for effort. Despite already being turned down by former Texas head coach Mack Brown that has not stopped them from continuing to court Brown and offering him big money to get back in the head coaching saddle at SMU.
DMN: #SMU floating $4M per 8 yrs at Mack Brown. My hunch: sharp OCs w TX ties Tom Herman, Chad Morris or Lincoln Riley make more sense.

One reason #SMU political ppl are intrigued by Mack Brown is if school has a shot to make a jump in possible Big12 expansion.

I suspect the whole thing abt #SMU getting in the Big12 is wishful thinking from some political folks there & that's part of this Mack tale.

Personally, I still think SMU should focus on younger offensive minded coach like Chad Morris, but I can see why they are chasing after Mack Brown. If you are able to get Brown to come back to coaching he gives you instant credibility not only in the Dallas Metroplex, but in the entire state of Texas. His name alone will attract recruits and revitalize the program and there may not be a better closer in the living room in the state of Texas. I still don’t think he takes the job, but SMU is going to make him say no more than once before they move on.
I think SMU hopes of getting into the Big 12 are a pipe dream considering how things have gone for them lately. While it makes more sense geographically to be in the Big 12 rather than the AAC (formerly the Big East), I don’t see the Big 12 bringing them in in the short term unless things turn around quickly.
