Adrian Peterson is about to turn 30, I think he should have an opportunity to play in the NFL again, but if I was an NFL team I’d be very cautious about giving a him long-term contract with big time money. It has nothing to do with him being a child abuser and everything to do with the fact running backs are disposable. As great as Adrian Peterson is he can’t single handedly carry a team to a Super Bowl.
Is there a huge difference between Peterson and say DeMarco Murray currently besides name recognition? I think the Vikings understand this and will release him and Peterson might be ready for a fresh start.
“I would love to go back and play in Minnesota to get a feel and just see if my family still feels comfortable there,” Peterson said. “But if there’s word out that hey, they might release me, then so be it. I would feel good knowing that I’ve given everything I had in me.
Peterson said there is mutual love with first-year coach Mike Zimmer, who read a motivational text from Peterson before a Sept. 28 game against Atlanta that’s one of the Vikings’ four wins. He’d gladly return this season if his appeal succeeds. But Peterson also said he has given a lot of thought to the idea that “maybe it’s best for me to get a fresh start somewhere else.”
Teams will be interested and because the country is split on corporal punishment his return will be easier than say Ray Rice.
Jerry Jones will of course be interested, but we will see to what type of market there will be for Peterson.
