After leaving the Houston Rockets and signing with the Dallas Mavericks, Chandler Parsons and his former teammates have engaged in a war of words that will come to a head when the two teams meet on November 22, in Houston. Parsons’ replacement Trevor Ariza has been playing stellar for the Rockets averaging 17.6 points, 5.4 rebounds and 3.2 assists. He is also leading the league in 3-pointers shooting 60% from downtown. If he keeps this productivity up, the Rockets come out as winners since they signed Ariza for several million dollars less. When asked about Ariza’s play Parsons had this to say.
Via Pro Basketball Talk:
“I don’t pay any attention to him,” Parsons said. “Listen, many people replace many people every year in this league. He’s a good, proven player in this league. He’s supposed to play good for them.”
Many people are insinuating that Parsons is bitter about the Rockets and Ariza’s hot start by these comments but I’m not sure I agree. How exactly was Parsons supposed to respond to a question like this? I doubt he’s tracking Ariza’s stats when he’s trying to establish himself as a top player for the Dallas Mavericks so saying he hasn’t been paying attention makes sense.
Then again, it’s all about narrative and not thinking logically.
