Rashad McCants faced a lot of criticism when he spoke out about the culture of academic fraud that surrounded the UNC athletic department. Now, former Tar Heel defensive lineman Tydreke Powell called into a radio station and spoke candidly about how former coach Butch Davis told players:
“If you all came here for an education, you should have gone to Harvard”
Powell also said that players were encouraged to fail aptitude tests in order to get education assistance and called Roy Williams a snake that knew everything that was going on – saying that if you were in a class with a basketball player you knew you were going to get a good grade and told a story about running a train on a female student that took tests for them.
This does not bode well for Carolina, which seems hell bent on separating Roy Williams from this scandal in hopes that he nor the program will face NCAA repercussions. Up until this point, players have rallied around the school, with many speaking against those who break the invisible code of silence, but if more players like Powell start talking, it will only mean more bad news for the Tar Heel athletic program and Roy Williams.
