Rivalry week is one of the most anticipated in college football, but some fans take it too far sometimes. The Ole Miss and Miss State rivalry is bigger than it’s been in a long time, since both teams are ranked in the top 10. However, there may be a case of some fans trying to spoil the fun of the weekend.
The FBI has been brought in to investigate a note threatening to destroy the trees at The Grove at Ole Miss’ campus. The Grove is famous for the beautiful trees and the ambiance on a Saturday, where tailgating occurs for Ole Miss fans.
“What’s going to happen to ya’ll on the field Saturday Aint nothing compared to what’s going to happen on your beautiful campus. You won’t be one of the most pretty campus’s Next year. A lot of shrubs and trees are going to die; especially in the grove. Can’t stop us”
It was signed, “Hail State Go to Hell TSUN.” TSUN stands for “that school up north.”
Sadly, this isn’t the first time something like this has happened. In 2010, Alabama fan Harvey Updyke poisoned the oak trees at Toomer’s Corner on Auburn’s campus. He was caught and sentenced to 6 months in prison and 5 years probation. In addition, he was ordered to pay Auburn $800K.
Destroying nature in the name of a college football rivalry is stooping to an all-time low. Hopefully, this latest aggressor will be apprehended before any harm can come to The Grove.
