Jay Gruden has a point–Griffin III does need to get tougher if he ever wants to succeed in the NFL.
Gruden made the signature move of his short tenure in Washington on Wednesday, announcing that RG3 had been benched for Colt McCoy.
It’s a move that won the locker room over, and could signal the end of Griffin III in D.C.
“I’m prepared to give Colt every opportunity to keep the job … I feel very strongly about Colt.”
Gruden gave off the sense that McCoy has a chance to be a quality starter for the Redskins in the viable future. If McCoy fails, then the rookie coach will look like he has no clue how to develop the quarterback position.
Gruden truly feels that these low moments in RG3’s life can have a lasting positive effect on his career.
“I’m hoping as a pro this helps toughen him up and fuels a fire in his belly.”
