Cyborg vs Rousey had become the MMA version of Mayweather-Pacquiao but Cris Cyborg has finally put the rumors to bed.
“From now on, I will only fight at my weight or at a catchweight,” Cyborg told Tatame.com on Monday. “I realized I’m the only one making an effort for this fight to happen. I believe both should make an effort.”
Ronda is the UFC champion at 135 lbs which gives her the leverage to dictate the terms of any fight. Cyborg knew that fro the beginning but still pursued the fight with Rousey.
It wasn’t until her recent injury that she changed her tune. Maybe the injury was caused by Cyborg’s inability to cut down to 135 lbs or maybe it just provided her clarity? We may never know what has made Cyborg quit chasing Ronda, but fans can finally let go of the idea of these two women fighting.
