It’s hard to not like ‘One Time’ Keith Thurman’s boxing ability. Any boxing fan that has seen him in the ring knows that he deserves a top flight matchup in 2015, but for some reason the promoters aren’t guaranteeing one.
Maybe Thurman’s huge KO power scares the elite fighters in the welterweight division, maybe Thurman doesn’t have the following of foreign fighters, maybe he just isn’t good enough to fight at that level (I doubt that).
There has to be a reason why Thurman hasn’t received a major headlining fight while boxers such as Adrien Broner have.
Thurman is hoping to change that.
At the 4:20 mark of the video Thurman says that Maidana can be a “stepping stone” to a Floyd Mayweather fight and I’d have to agree with him. Beating a fighter such as Maidana could put him line for one of Floyd’s last fights. He’d have to knock off another 1 or 2 highly ranked contenders to build his buzz but if he accumulates 3 KOs in the next year and a half there’s no reason to think he couldn’t take on Mayweather in the fall of 2016, given Floyd hasn’t retired.
Thurman’s seen what having a loud mouth has done for other fighters recently, so it’s only right that he takes his turn.
