It was reported earlier in the week that Brooklyn was making Deron Williams, Joe Johnson, and Brook Lopez available in trade talks.
It made sense because Brooklyn is old and it appears their championship window is closed, so why not start rebuilding with young talent?
Well, Nets general manager Billy King is denying those reports.
“My job is to listen to people and to make calls and to make calls back,” King said before the Nets’ 88-70 victory over the 76ers on Friday night at Barclays Center.
“Does that mean we’re having a fire sale? Absolutely not. I’m doing my job, as well as asking the players and the coaches to do their job. But my job is to work the phones, see what’s available.
“If things make sense you make trades. If they don’t, you don’t do it. But we’re not shopping or having a fire sale.”
Brooklyn is currently 9-12, which places them as the eight seed. Depending on how they play up until the trade deadline, it wouldn’t come as a surprise to see King unleash some of his older talent.
