The Browns’ quarterback dilemma got worse on Sunday. After Johnny Manziel went down with a hamstring injury, Brian Hoyer is now nursing a shoulder injury, which could leave them with having start rookie Connor Shaw against the Ravens in the season finale.
Browns quarterback Brian Hoyer suffered a right shoulder injury during Sunday’s 17-13 loss to the Panthers and will be evaluated day-to-day, a league source confirmed.
With Johnny Manziel suffering a pulled hamstring late in the first half, the Browns might have to activate undrafted rookie Connor Shaw from South Carolina off the practice squad. And if neither Manziel nor Hoyer can play, Shaw could get the start Sunday in Baltimore.
The Browns did not report Hoyer’s injury after the game and have not yet confirmed the report. The extent of his injury is unknown, as is that of Manziel.
Things have fallen apart for the Browns down the home stretch. I’m not sure exactly what they plan to do at the quarterback position with both Hoyer and Manziel struggling, but it will certainly be interesting to follow going forward. The Browns have a chance to play spoiler to Baltimore’s playoff chances in the final game of the year, but it will be tough to pull off with a rookie third string quarterback under center.
