This is big time news, that could send shockwaves around the boxing world. NBC Sports officially announced a multi-year deal with Al Haymon that will carry five cards in prime time and six on Saturday afternoons, said an executive familiar with the details. The remaining nine shows will be on NBCSN in prime time.
The free, non-cable primetime TV slots will include bouts with big time names like Adrien Broner, Danny Garcia and Lamonte Peterson. Haymon’s biggest client, Floyd Mayweather will not be apart of the deal.
Its huge new and a smart plan with NBC getting into boxing with a limited investment. In what is called a time-buy arrangement, Haymon Boxing will pay at least $20 million annually to purchase time on NBC and NBCSN to show bouts that will feature Broner, Garcia and others the executive said. NBC will produce the shows, with the great Al Michaels hosting the NBC prime-time bouts. Haymon is pulling out all the stops, announcing that Sugar Ray Leonard will be an analyst for some of the cards.
