HS Girls’ BBall Team Wins Game 80-0

Greenwood

We’ve seen some ugly high school scores in women’s basketball recently, but this might take the cake.

That scoreboard in the picture reads: 80-0 with no time left in the game, and no someone’s nine year old didn’t get loose and play with the score…that is the actual final of an actual girls’ high school basketball game. According to the Detroit Free Press, The Detroit Cass Tech Lady Technicians literally blanked Detroit Osborn by an unbelievable score of 80 to zero.

Zero.

How can that happen at the high school level? Not one basket? Not one accidental tip-in? Not one friendly roll off the back of the rim? For an entire game? Cass Tech head coach Marissa Thrower did everything short of having her team shoot at their own basket to help Osborn avoid this terrible outcome. She benched her starters, she layed off the defense, she had the scorekeepers run the clock the entire second half. What more could she do?

“My starters only played 6 minutes in the first quarter, then I put the seniors back in for literally 2 seconds, just so they could get a standing ovation when I took them out because it was senior night,” said Thrower. As a former athlete myself, you never want to see anything like that. You hear about stuff like this. You want it to be a competitive game. It was just a bad situation. A mismatch.”

I don’t know what kind of mismatch involves all starters vs. bench players and a lax defense, and not one basket to be had. Normally, I wouldn’t be so tough on kids, but this is just ridiculous. If Detroit Osborn is okay with being a team that can’t get themselves a single point in a competitive game, perhaps they should think about doing something else.
