Jennifer Lopez stars in “The Boy Next Door” which opened this weekend to decent numbers. The movie grabbed about $500,000 in Thursday night showings. It is estimated to make about $15 million for the weekend with strong projections from Latino and female audiences. This movie looks pretty bad from the trailers. It looks like a by the numbers kind of story and according to Rotten Tomatoes it has a 13% with critics. J-Lo somehow made a Lifetime movie that is critically disliked but will end up grossing around $50 million. The Boy Next Door had a budget of $4 million so that’s a big win for Universal and J-lo who proves she’s still a box office draw. Other movies opening this weekend are the animated film Strange Magic and Johnny Depp’s Mortdecai, both of which have equally bad critical ratings on Rotten Tomatoes.
