The Yanks/Sox rivalry might be lackluster on the diamond but it looks like it’s about to pick up in the front offices.
Yoan Mancado is an absolute stud, don’t believe me? Here’s Yahoo Sports Jeff Passon’s evaluations of him:
Neither, for that matter, was Yoan Moncada. He is a 19-year-old, switch-hitting, fast-twitch-muscled, movie-star-looking bundle of talent from Cuba packed into a 6-foot-2, 200-pound frame. Nobody – not Yasiel Puig, not Jose Abreu, not Yoenis Cespedes – has at such a young age created so much hype among the Cuban baseball establishment since Omar Linares, the 1980s star widely regarded as the best talent ever from the island.
Now the biggest question is who will land the prospect when he hits free agency in a few weeks. The two leaders are familiar foes.
The Red Sox have shown that they are all about rebuilding their 2014 roster and they have already signed some of the best free agent hitters available. Yoan Mancado would give them one of the most dangerous lineups in the MLB.
The Yankees on the other hand NEED Mancado. They have an oft-injured lineup and are counting on a 40 year old Alex Rodriguez to carry them in the power department.
It’ll be interesting to see who wants Yoan more and how the fan bases react to not getting him.
