Eric Ebron was an amazing tight end for UNC each of the 3-years he was there. He holds the school records for most reception (62) and receiving yards (973) in the season and most receptions (112) and receiving yards (1,805) in a career, for a tight end. Ebron was drafted 10th overall in the 2014 draft by the Detroit Lions and did not bite his tongue when it came to sharing his expectation for the season.
According to NBCSports.com, Ebron expected to be used like tight end Jimmy Graham of the Saints, bragged about being through the rookie wall before the summer started and that anything short of a Pro-Bowl and Rookie of The Year award would fall short of his expectations.
With his goals and expectation very high, it’s easy to see that Ebron’s season did not go as planned. After dealing with injuries all year, only having 25 catches, 248 yards and 1 touchdown, Ebron admitted to feeling like a zombie.
“It is what it is. I kind of overhyped that situation myself not exactly knowing what kind of situation I was going into or which team I was going to get drafted to. It is what it is. It happened. [My] rookie year is over and the only thing you can do is progress. It’s just all about progressing now”.
“There’s a lot of things to get better. Now that I understand that game plan in the NFL, it’s all about improving on that, I’m dying for OTA’s this offseason”.
I expect Ebron to play much better next season, sometimes it just takes a second to figure out where you fit in. With Calvin Johnson and Golden Tate on his team, a solid back field and Matthew Stafford as quarterback, there will be situations when Ebron has a favorable matchup.
