Kendrick Perkins was traded from the Oklahoma City Thunder last week to the Utah Jazz where he was later waived. Perkins received interest from several teams with the Clippers and the Cavs as the favorites. When asked why he choose the Cavs over the Clippers, Perkins shared these words:
“I choose the king. That team is on a mission. You can tell they’re playing agenda-free basketball, trying to get the win and get better.”
“I don’t have no agenda, I’m honest with myself. I know I probably won’t ever make an All-Star game, so the only thing on my mind is trying to win a championship.”
Perkins stated that LeBron James and Doc Rivers both reached out to him. Perkins has a long relationship with both, Doc was his coach in Boston and LeBron was his teammate for two years on the AAU circuit.
Lebron’s pitch to Perkins was simple,
“Let’s make this happen. It’s been a long time coming.”
Perkins feels that everything happens for a reason and this could be his only chance to play with LeBron. I think the Cavs are the best situation for him, he won’t be asked to do a lot yet he has the chance to compete for a championship.
At this rate, LeBron has to be in the conversation for GM of the year. He has played a major part in bringing J.R. Smith, Iman Shumpet, Shawn Marion Mike Miller, and Timofey Mozgov to town.
