Former Ohio State running back Maurice Clarett says he’ll finally be poised to obtain his degree within two years of course study.
Clarett, who helped lead the Buckeyes to a 2002 National Championship as a freshman, has had a rather tumultuous path since leaving Ohio State.
Clarett battled a string of personal issues which led to the demise of his NFL career, and ultimately led to a conviction and prison sentence of seven and a half years in 2006.
Upon his release from prison in 2010, Clarett has kept out of trouble, resuming his collegiate studies at Ohio State University via online courses we learn via TMZ.
Clarett has opted to pursue his degree online due to the high travel demand of his now post-football career, in which he is a partner in a pallet and packaging distribution business.
Maurice was adamant that he has put both his criminal past, as well as the game which notarized his name behind him in an interview with TMZ, Clarett states:
“I’m at peace. I’m not angry anymore. I’m not frustrated. I have direction … I have a vision for my life.”
With a new lease on life Maurice is fairly confident that he will succeed, especially since he notes that Ohio State has been so gracious as to assist him with funding his degree journey.
“They opened up their arms to me and said, ‘We’d like you to finish your degree’ … they’ve even offered to help me out with funding.”
It is good to see that Maurice is not only dedicated to keeping his life on the right track, but taking the proper steps to ensure that he can keep it on track. He was an supreme talent on the football field, and I for one am anxious to see him excel off of the field.
