The world of college basketball lost one of it’s most prized possessions earlier in 2015 when the legendary Dean Smith passed away at the age of 83. The former University of North Carolina basketball coach was one of the most highly regarded and decorated coaches in the history of college basketball. Smith was a 4-time national coach of the year, 2-time National Champion, with 11 total Final Four appearances. Smith was known for his kindness and generosity, the strong affinity that he always maintained for his former players, and it looks as if those traits stayed with him even until his death. Coach Smith willed his trust to send a $200 check to each of his former players as a sign of thanks for all they have done for him, and to show how much he truly appreciated them, and to “enjoy a dinner out” on him. The UNC Tar Heels will definitely look to use some of this good karma bestowed upon them from Dean Smith to channel towards an upset victory over Wisconsin in the Sweet Sixteen tonight.
