Indiana basketball fans are among the most passionate in sports, and as we’ve told you before – they’re not the biggest fans of current head coach Tom Crean. Fair to say this next story, though, took it a bit too far.
According to the Crimson Quarry, they recently received an email that detailed fans in the student section at his son’s local basketball game chanting disparaging remarks. Riley, Tom Crean’s son, had just gotten into the sectional finals game in Indiana when fans began a “Tom Crean Sucks” chant.
The reader email goes on to say they “cringed” when it occurred, as I’m sure many of the parents who’ve read the story have done. Attacking a high school student with chants such as these is a classless act – for sure. However, it’s important to remember where this occurred, and that it all likely began with some punk underage high school kid who thought he was being funny.
A few rowdy high school fans don’t represent an entire community, but it’s still not a good look for IU fans.
@crimsonquarry I was at the game and I heard it. I couldn't believe it and I was shocked. Felt terrible for Riley and his parents.
