When it comes to athletes in other sports (specifically male athletes) when it is clear they are domestic abusers the vast majority of people want them to be thrown in jail.
In the case of Hope Solo, I see far more sympathy for her even though it is clear she has a violent streak. Equality isn’t always equal.

At least she is admitting she has a problem which is the first step in becoming a better person.
