Maurice Clarett is a very interesting guy. He’s battled back from a dark path and transformed his life over the past few years. Clarett like many other athletes took to twitter to give his thoughts on Chris Boland early retirement. That lead to great points from Clarett about schools and the education or lack of education athletes receive.
An interesting piece that Maurice tweeted was about having a back up plan and how practice, weightlifting and sprints are valid until about 30 if you’re lucky. Education helps to assist family, community, friends. The life of an athlete doesn’t last forever, Maurice went from a national hero to the gutter and has rebuilt himself. Have to remember Maurice battle to change the eligibility to be allowed to enter the NFL draft. At the time Clarett saw nothing past football, nothing past football as a way to success.
I believe Clarett main point is that student athletes can not depend on schools or football. Athletes have to take it upon themselves to prioritize and planning there future. Planning beyond football to investigate passions outside of football that can sustain them beyond the age of 30.
Lots of guys don't have a backup plan. They get shuffled thru the college ranks and only see football as an option to succeed.

For college players having a "degree" is not enough. It's VERY easy for a school to graduate players with "nonsense" degrees.

Kids earn schools millions. Let's forget about paying to play… Conversation should be actually educating them so they can be of some value

Donors feel good about the"graduation rates" and shell out more money. Donors have no clue that the degrees hold no value in today's economy
