This is exactly why people have such a hard time trying to help others. You never know who really needs it and who is just using you.

Kelley Johanneson had a shaved head, and she was going through treatment. She even had a GoFundMe account filling up with cash, but there was one problem. Police say Johanneson did not have stage four breast cancer, and as a matter of fact, she didn’t have cancer at all. Instead police say she was allegedly duping her community out of money and faking her illness.
In 2013 the 36-year-old mother of two disappeared for a month, and when she reappeared she told friends and family she had Stage IV breast cancer. Initially when word spread around town about this, Fox 13 says the town of Hernando in Citrus County in Florida did everything they could to support her. There was a large fundraiser, lots of hugs and help with anything she needed.
But somehow last September, Fox 13 says things took a turn and a suspicious tipster reported Johanneson to local police. It was a complaint that launched an investigation into the cancer. During that time, authorities figured out this was all, allegedly, a big scam. Johanneson gave detectives paperwork from a cancer treatment center in Tampa but when asked, the Moffitt Cancer Center stated she wasn’t a patient there.
At the point Johanneson was figured out, Fox 13 says there was at least $4,400 in her Go Fund Me account, but investigators don’t believe this was the only source of funding she received. She had also attended fundraisers such as the event held by the Citrus County Airboat Alliance wearing a bandana as well as have a campaign on Our Backyard Foundation. It is not known how much money she received from those two avenues.
As for Johanneson, Fox 13 says you may not recognize her now. In the mugshot above, the hair on her head and eyebrows are grown in and she is still sitting behind bars at the local Citrus County jail. She’s facing fraud charges and being held without bond.
That is really sad. There are people who make GoFundMe accounts that really need financial help and then, you have people like Johanneson, who take other people’s kindess for weakness. Be careful who you donate to on these websites.
