5-Star Prospect Chooses UNLV Hoops Over Kentucky

The Runnin’ Rebels desperately wish to restore their basketball program to where it was in the early 90’s.

Currently, they are loading up for the season after finishing this year with a mediocre 18-15 record.

They recently received commitments from two four-star caliber prospects that will battle for a spot on the starting lineup next year, and tonight we find out that they were lucky enough to keep their homegrown stud in the state.

Zimmerman, who is 7’0,” is ranked as the No. 11 player in the 2015 class on Rivals. A native of Las Vegas, Nevada, he chose the Runnin’ Rebels over offers from Arizona, Kansas, Kentucky, North Carolina, UCLA and more.

To receive offers from the likes of UNC, Kansas, and Kentucky you’ve got to be special.

Seven footers are obviously extremely hit-or-miss, they always have been and they always will be. But he’s got to be worth the risk if those teams and highly respected coaches were chasing him.

Good for him for staying home though. To me there’s just something about a person turning down the allure of the big name to stay in their hometown and play that just oozes confidence. I’m already sold on this kid.

The Runnin’ Rebels should be a fun team to watch next year.
