A.J. Francis might be a professional football player for the Miami Dolphins, but he’s also a hustler too.
The checks NFL players receive are more than enough to sustain a comfortable lifestyle, even for the lowest paid players. However, according to the NY Daily News; Francis is taking up a job as an Uber driver to earn some extra cheddar during the offseason:
The 6-foot-5, 330-pound NFLer told the Daily News that after being a user and fan of the crowd-sourced taxi app he applied to be a driver on Wednesday.
“It would be a cool way to get some extra cash,” admitted Francis, who signed with Miami as an undrafted free agent out of the University of Maryland in 2013 and spent last season on injured reserve after suffering a knee injury.
You might be asking, “why would an NFL player want, or need to have a second job?”. Francis goes on to answer that question, via his twitter feed:
Just applied to be an @Uber driver… I hope my background check goes well.

People ask me why would you want to be an @uber driver if you play in the NFL… You know what’s better than NFL money? More money.

@joshkatzowitz my first job was behind a deli counter. In college I worked as a nightclub bouncer. I’m a fan of odd jobs lol

@joshkatzowitz I bounced so I could pay my phone bill and car insurance. Lol them subsistence checks from the NCAA weren’t cutting it

To me, it’s pretty simple. A.J. Francis plays in Miami, has some free time, and sees the opportunity to make some easy money. Pro athlete or not, why not line your pockets a little more?
