Entering into his third NFL season, EJ Manuel has handled everything thrown at him with maturity. We never once saw Manuel complain at any point after being benched just 14 games into his NFL career. Manuel was the drafted 16th overall in the 2013 draft and instantly served as a starter for the Bills. It wasn’t long after that the bills decided to make a change at quarterback bringing in veteran Kyle Orton to replace Manuel. Ex-coach Doug Marrone and his staff have received quite a bit of heat when it comes to Manuel success or lack there of. When asked if coach Doug Marrone opting out of his contract was the best thing for his career, Manuel answered with a smile:
“I don’t know, I don’t know because (Marrone)’s not here with us right now. I just think God works in mysterious ways. I’m excited with the coaches we have now.”
A lot had happened for EJ over the past 18 months. At one point he was in Kyle Orton’s shadow and doing everything to get out of the doghouse with the coaching staff but everything has changed. Orton recently retired and Doug Marrone and his staff are gone. This is a true fresh start for EJ which he doesn’t think would have been possible without coaching change.
“I don’t know, a true fresh start? I don’t think so, because they were here with me. We were both rookies at the same time.”
I think the Bills are headed in the right direction, new coach Rex Ryan will instantly improve the defense and running back LeSean McCoy will definitely make an impact in the running game.
