I guess the notion that football is more beloved in the south may have some truth to it. On Thursday the Georgia State Senate passed a bill that punishes people for giving money directly to student-athletes. The good people of the state of Georgia do not like predators trying to take advantage of kids, or maybe they will stop at nothing in order to keep all of their best athletes on the field. Gurley was suspended last season for putting his autograph on merchandise that was then sold for profit. The problem with the whole exchange was the perpetrator set the whole thing up and then eventually was the one who told on Gurley.
House Bill 3 bears the same number as University of Georgia’s former star running back Todd Gurley, who had to sit out four games last season for selling his autograph to a dealer in violation of NCAA rules. According to media reports, when the dealer couldn’t sell enough of the autographed items, he reported the violation to the National Collegiate Athletic Association, angering many Bulldog fans.
