The Redskins are “likely” to pick up the fifth year option on Robert Griffin III’s contract, according to NFL Network’s Albert Breer.
As I said on @NFL_AM, I'm told Redskins are likely to pick up Robert Griffin III's option for 2016. They view as a franchise tag, of sorts.

According to Breer, the Redskins are viewing it as a franchise tag scenario.
“They view this as a version of the franchise tag—only a little bit cheaper,” Breer said on NFL AM, adding that exercising the option would cost the Redskins about $3 million less than the 2016 franchise tag for quarterbacks.
“It’s going to cost $16.1 million in 2016, but they can cut ties with him before the beginning of the ’16 league year if he doesn’t perform,” Breer added. “This gives them control over the player but they are not married to him, unless of course he does suffer some sort of serious injury. So that’s the risk.”
