Report: Shaka Smart Likely To Accept Texas Job

Shaka Smart and Gregg Marshall are the top two candidates for Texas

Texas AD Steve Patterson is reportedly on his way to Richmond, Virginia to pick up VCU head coach Shaka Smart, and fly him back to Austin, Texas with hopes of making him the head basketball coach.

Texas officials will be surprised if he doesn’t eventually accept an offer, a source told on Wednesday afternoon.

OrangeBlood is reporting that a deal is not done, but many expect Smart to take the job.

Smart, 37, has averaged 27.2 wins in his six years at VCU while making the past five NCAA Tournaments. He won the 2015 Atlantic 10 Tournament. He made the 2011 Final Four.
