With the upcoming 2015 NBA Draft looming it seems the Philadelphia 76ers have found their guy. Well, at least that’s how one league executive sees it.
An unnamed league source says the Philadelphia 76ers are targeting Ohio State freshman phenom D’Angelo Russell. 76ers finished with an abysmal 18-64 record that would have General Manager Sam Hinkie and company with a top 3 projected pick.
Now seeing as the 76ers have absolutely no guard play to go along with rookie standout Nerlens Noel and getting last year’s 1st round pick Joel Embiid back from a fractured foot will help, seems like Russell would be the ideal candidate for this frontline. So getting the best guard in this draft with make life a lot easier.
Russell is a smooth, 6’5 combo guard with outstanding passing ability and a handle that is very similar to a blend of Steph Curry and Kyrie Irving. Not to mention, he gets to anywhere on the floor and can score in bunches with unlimited range.
Now this could all very well be a ploy by Hinkie to have teams take him as high as 2 to have Jahil Okafor or Karl Anthony Towns slip to 3.
However, league executive or not, Russell would be the best guard since Allen Iverson to play for the city of Brotherly Love.
