Many baseball fans may cringe when they hear it, but Alex Rodriguez and Babe Ruth just became tied in yet another remarkable statistic.
During the 7th inning of last nights game against the Rangers, A-Rod drove in career run #1,992 – tying him with Babe Ruth for 4th most on the All-Time RBI list.
It took the two men, each, 21 seasons of MLB time to get there.
However, it’s important to remember that Babe Ruth began his career (in 1914) before RBI were an official statistic (which began in 1920). Additionally, he was solely a pitcher for the Red Sox, before being allowed to play everyday in their outfield. Ruth, of course, responded by breaking the single season home run record in 1919.
So while Alex Rodriguez may be able to flaunt his worthiness on the baseball field, and nobody can actually take those numbers away; his legacy may never match that of the Great Bambino.
At least he’s got all of these records, though, right?
All kidding aside, A-Rod has been working his butt off this year and may be the most potent hitter the Yankees currently have. Good for him for working down his road to redemption.
