John Calipari and the Kentucky Wildcats had a magical season last year just finishing a game away from being in the championship game. However, the Wildcats coach is going to change the way he coaches.
Coach Calipari admitted last season use of the platoon system was the only way he could give his star-studded roster all playing time and exposure, but wasn’t really his ideal way of substituting players.
“If you ask me if I’m ever going to platoon again, my answer is NO. Last season was an absolute outlier. It’s just not the way I like to coach. I would rather play seven or eight guys because I believe that gives us the best chance to win. I think we wrote the book on platooning this year, but I hope we stick it on the shelf and never have to use it again.”
With a roster that included the Harrison twins, Wille Trill Cauley-Stein, Karl Anthony Towns, Trey Lyles, Devon Booker, Dakari Johnson, Tyler Ulis, and Marcus Lee, equally distributing the minutes was the only alternative.
This upcoming 2015-16 season, Calipari brings in a Top 2 recruiting class that includes five star recruits Skal Labissiere and Isaiah Briscoe, and four star prospect Charles Matthews.
Expect heavy minutes for these incoming freshmen.
