Devon Still and his daughter, Leah, has captured our hearts. Still did something not most parents have the strength of doing, letting in strangers while his daughter fought cancer. America rallied behind this family in the forms of donations, but most importantly prayer. Since her diagnoses in mid-2014, Leah is said to be in remission but will undergo a stem-cell transplant during her birthday, but while she goes to the hospital for the next 4-6 weeks, Leah leaves us with a little surprise.
According to NFLPA, Still and Leah have decided to release a children’s book about pediatric cancer.
“After having numerous families’ contact me for advice on how to deal with fighting pediatric cancer and seeing the amount of kids that follow Leah’s story, Leah and I decided to write a children’s book that talks about Leah’s fight,” Still explained.
“I talked to my daughter and asked her if she wanted to do a children’s book to help kids who are fighting pediatric cancer now and kids who will be diagnosed in the future to help them with the transition from normal life to being in the hospital all the time,” said Still. “That book was written by her. I just had an outline of questions that I wanted to ask her. Whatever answers she had I wrote in book form.”
“Leah Strong” is a phrase we have all learned to associate with humble strength. Leah has given us all a smile as she battled something that she didn’t ask for, but surviving it like a solider. Her father, Devon, has become a symbol for all parents in the hopes that whatever their child is battling they will overcome, all the while being a strong foundation for them.
A portion of this books proceeds will be donated to families battling pediatric cancer. For more information and to purchase a book, please head to IamLeahStrong.com. The book is also said to be in stores soon.
