If Ray Rice was a Quarterback, Cornerback, Defensive End, Offensive Tackle or etc, he would probably have a job right now.
But, he is a running back who didn’t look that particularly great when he was last on the field. Our society is an interesting place.
We are more forgiving of a 6’1″ 220 man who is all muscle beating his 4-year-old in the testicles, than someone having an altercation with their spouse. Both are horrible, but one is seen as acceptable by some people in our society.
The way I look at it is like this. If a man beat his wife with an object be it a belt or switch where she was scratched all up and bleeding he would get arrested and probably crucified. If a man beats his child with an object to where he is scratched up and bleeding some call that discipline. It doesn’t add up to me.
But, back to Rice, here is what NFLPA president DeMaurice Smith had to say.
“This, unfortunately, is a league that has a history of blackballing players. I find it hard to believe that a player of Mr. Rice’s caliber hasn’t at least gotten one offer from a team to come work out,” Smith said.
Simply put, Ray Rice plays a disposable position so teams don’t think the PR headache is worth it, especially in today’s climate.
He has likely played his last game in the NFL.
