Suilamon was dismissed from the Duke program in late February, on the eve of their national championship run. Allegations surrounding Suilamon’s release have been attributed to a sexual assault accusation that has since been cleared up. Maryland is no stranger to a player with questionable background transferring into the program. Last year’s senior leader, Dez Wells transferred to College Park under very similar circumstances after leaving Xavier amid a sexual assault allegation.
“For everything I’ve been through, my family and I wanted me to be at a place where I trusted everyone,” Sulaimon said. “I’ve known Coach [Mark] Turgeon and [assistant coach Dustin] Clark since I was 13. I trust them.”
