Adrian Peterson is under contract, so his only recourse to get his way is to not show up. The downside of that is if he doesn’t show up, he doesn’t get paid.
So, it is a game chicken at the moment. Peterson is willing to forfeit $250k to show the Vikings that he is serious. We will have to see who blinks first.
When Adrian Peterson skips this week’s organized team activities for the Minnesota Vikings, he will attempt to send an unmistakable message to the franchise: He wants to be traded.
That’s what a source within the star running back’s inner circle told Yahoo Sports on Sunday night. Despite months of overtures by the Vikings, Peterson has not wavered privately about his wish to continue his career with another franchise. Indeed, the source said Peterson believes he already made ownership and the Vikings’ front office aware that he wanted a trade in face-to-face meetings this offseason.
According to Yahoo the source says Peterson hasn’t decided if he will sit out mandatory and training camps yet. Peterson who took a plea deal for beating his 4-year-old son and was on paid leave for 15 games last season, feels he was done wrong by the Vikings organization.
Considering he was paid during his suspension, I am not sure what more he thought they could do. Don’t expect the Vikings to budge unless someone offers up a Herschel Walker style package. That would be ironic, wouldn’t it?
