Former Miami Dolphins WR Chris Chambers now owns a fitness center in South Florida, and is reporting that free-agent QB Michael Vick is training at a very high level in hopes of an NFL comeback…for the right team.
He even says there are ‘several’ teams interested in the services of Vick, who was benched in favor of Geno Smith with the New York Jets last season.
“There was a lot of political stuff with him and Geno Smith with the Jets last year. Last two weeks, he has done phenomenal,” Chambers said, via the Miami Herald. “There are several teams that want him. He wanted to be on a winning team. He wants to play three years. Eventually, he wants to start again.”
It’s hard to imagine Vick starting for a contender right now. If you think about it, a team that is a contender probably doesn’t need a 34-year old Michael Vick who can’t seem to avoid the rush anymore. In space, of course he’s always going to be dangerous, but that just doesn’t work in the NFL.
While I sincerely wish him the best in his endeavors, and as a football fan I’d always be intrigued to see a healthy Vick on the field; I just don’t foresee him starting for a team that’s in the midst of winning seasons.
