Ronda Rousey Named Most Dominant Athlete Alive

Ronda Rousey UFC 184 Cat Zingano

I understand the rationale behind such an honor — I’m just not sure you can clearly award this to Rousey based on the constant weak competition she’s faced with.

UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey has annihilated every fighter she’s faced over the course of her career — leading to an undefeated record UFC competition (11-0) — while only making it out the first round once.

Business Insider published an article highlighting the top-50 most dominant athletes alive, and Rousey topped the list that included — LeBron James, Serena Williams, Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Clayton Kershaw.

Here’s the explanation BI provided as to why Rousey topped the list:

No athlete is the best in their sport by a wider margin than Rousey. Her two wins in the past year have lasted an average of 15 seconds. The UFC made her its first female fighter ever. In her five UFC fights, only one opponent has made it out of the first round without getting knocked out of submission. She’s not just undefeated; she’s effectively untouched.

The only other MMA fighter to make the list was Jon Jones, who was ranked No. 18 (although he was recently stripped of his light heavyweight title). Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0) came in a bit lower than many would have expected at No. 14.
