Bob Arum is the latest in a line of pundits, ripping Gennady Golovkin’s resume and pointing out that he’s never stopped a big named opponent.
In this video interview by Luis Sandoval of FightHype, Arum says that Golovkin — thanks to HBO, his impeccable promotion, has allowed him to fight a bunch of stumblebums.
Arum went on to say that as long as HBO is willing to pay Golovkin good money to fight these “stumblebums,” there’s little incentive for him to move up to a much deeper 168lb division where there are some big fights to be made.
“I think that his promotion team is doing a very, very good job and they’ve got the people at HBO mesmerized, and so they’re letting him fight stumblebum after stumblebum, so as long as he can do it and pick up money, I mean, what’s the incentive to fight guys at a higher weight…there’s so much more talent now in the 168-pound division…Golovkin should look at some of these 168-pound guys…there is where the big money fights can be made, but they’re dangerous,” stated Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum, who had a lot more to say about undefeated middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin. Arum suggests that GGG move up to 168lbs to face his fighter, Gilberto Ramirez — saying that Golovkin is no match for Ramirez and that they’d be willing to make the fight in ‘two minutes.’
Gilberto Ramirez hasn’t faced a fighter worth a salt either according to the boxing masses.
