The FIFA organization is in chaos right now due to the investigations of into awarding the 2018 and 2022 World Cup to Russia and Qatar respectively. Many high ranking FIFA officials have been arrested, and long time president, Sepp Blatter, has resigned just days after being re-elected to another term as FIFA president.
The 2026 World Cup host was expected to be announced by the 209 members at a meeting in Kuala Lampur, Malaysia in May 2017, but amid all the chaos and corruption, this has been postponed.
“Further decisions regarding the 2026 FIFA World Cup bidding process will be discussed by the FIFA Executive Committee at a later date,” a FIFA statement said. “Due to the situation, I think it’s nonsense to start any bidding process for the time being,” FIFA secretary general Jerome Valcke added
It seems like there will be a long process before any of this is resolved.
