The NBA free agency begins in July but the rumors just won’t stop. Earlier we reported how Paul Pierce is expected to decline his player option and become a free agent. According to David Aldridge of NBA.com, the soon to be former Washington Wizards forward Paul Pierce is expected to wind up signing with the Clippers after it’s all said and done.
Via Uproxx,
“As I reported as likely to happen a couple of weeks ago, Paul Pierce will opt out of his Wizards contract. The expectation among many around the league remains Pierce will wind up in L.A. with the Clippers.”
This would mean a pay-cut since the Clippers will only be able to offer the mini mid-level exception of about $3.7 million. Pierce would be declining a $5.5 million dollar option with Washington to take $2 million less and go to LA. There are other factors that can play into the decision above money as Pierce was born in California and may want to have the chance to play close to home. Pierce grew up in Inglewood, California. In LA Pierce would also be reunited with his old Boston Celtics coach, Doc Rivers.
