All signs point at seeing Miguel Cotto defend his title against Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez this fall. Floyd Mayweather has been granted the right to hold his fight on September 12th at the MGM Grand, so many expect Canelo to concede the Mexican holiday to Floyd.
Reports are stating that HBO is looking at a late fall date for the fight:
According to ESPN Deportes, negotiations have been ongoing between Golden Boy Promotions and Roc Nation Sports for a showdown between Puerto Rico’s biggest boxing star Miguel Cotto and Mexico’s biggest boxing star in Canelo Alvarez.
The bout will likely be an HBO Pay-Per-View. The dates both sides are looking at as reported by ESPN Deportes are either November 21st or November 28th. The location according to the report will be between New York, Texas, and Las Vegas.
Those are usually the weekends that Manny Pacquiao schedules his Macau, China fight but since he will be rehabbing from injury the dates are open.
These two fighters will have an added two months to rest and prepare for this fight. It seems like that’ll favor the older fighter, Cotto, more than it would the fighter entering his prime.
