Carmelo Anthony and newly drafted Knick, Kristaps Porzingis will be sharing the court next season. The whispers around have been that Melo was not happy that Phil Jackson drafted Kristaps so their relationship is going to be front page news in New York during this upcoming season. So the story about when Melo reached out to Kristaps after the draft is interesting.
“Carmelo Anthony reached out to me after I got drafted,” Porzingis said. “He said, ‘Congrats, welcome to the team.’ I didn’t have his number, so I texted back, ‘Who’s this?’ And then a few minutes later, he said, ‘This is Melo’ with his No. 7 as the ‘l.’ I met him actually when I came for my Knicks tryout for the first time. We’ve talked a couple of times since then.”
So Carmelo texted Kristaps and introduced himself as Me7o. Okay, I understand that this may be his attempt at pushing his brand but doing it in a text message to a guy that you need to share the court with? I don’t know. Maybe Melo was being funny but I don’t see him as that type of guy. Only time will tell on how they can perform together and if the focus on their play together doesn’t get to be too much for them. The lights of New York are going to shine bright on these two and losing may ignite this situation.
