It’s a forgone conclusion that Miguel Cotto and Canelo Alvarez will fight this fall and Bernard Hopkins thinks that this is one of the toughest fights he’s had to predict.
Hopkins spoke with TheBoxingScene.com and gave his pre-fight thoughts on Canelo-Cotto:
“Oh my God. Wow what a fight. I mean Canelo is with us but that’s a 50-50 fight. It might be 60-40 Cotto’s way because of experience. Some people might be a little shocked because I’m saying this but I keep it real. That’s why HBO hired me to do shows.”
“I want to be as honest and as brutally honest if I have to be, if I see something that I disagree with. I don’t care what side I am on but the bottom line is I think the fans are going to win when it’s all said and done.”
“Whether Canelo wins – which I am hoping and I am pretty sure he has the tools and I know he has the skills to do it – is it going to be a cakewalk? Is it going to be handed to him? Hell no. It’s a tough, real, great fight.”
Bernard is pretty much tip toeing the company line. Canelo is Golden Boy’s cash cow, so there’s no way Hopkins wants to see him lose but on the surface he relates to Cotto’s experience and wisdom.
Hopefully this fight is as close as Hopkins and others think it will be.
