Report: NFL Owners Worried About Will Smith’s “Concussion” Movie

Concussion-Will-Smith

The NFL has done a lot recently to make the game of football safer and to bring concussion awareness to all levels of football in America, but that wasn’t always the case.

It took years of neglect and trauma for players to come forward with their stories of brain injury. One of the largest stories regarding concussions in the NFL, “Brain game,” has now inspired the movie Concussion starring Will SmithIt is being reported that the NFL owners felt the need to discuss the impact of the movie at their yearly meetings and how to brace for the backlash the league will receive.

Per a league source, owners spent significant time at their May 2015 meeting discussing how to deal with and respond to the movie Concussion, which has a planned release date of December 25.

Philly.com explained the plot of Concussion:

Smith portrays Dr. Bennet Omalu, the forensic neuropathologist who discovered football-related brain trauma in a player and fought to bring awareness to the public.

Alec Baldwin, Luke Wilson, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Arliss Howard, Paul Reiser, David Morse and Albert Brooks also star.

Peter Landesman directs from his own script, based on the GQ article “Game Brain,” written by Jeanne Marie Laskas.

Producers are Ridley Scott, Giannina Facio, David Wolthoff, Larry Shuman and Elizabeth Cantillon; executive producers are David Crockett and Michael Schaefer.

This group of talented actors and producers are sure to deliver an amazing movie which will bring the CTE and concussion narrative back to the forefront of sports news. I hope the league and the owners are prepared to handle it.
