Will Smith and Jay Z are back at it again and this time they are shedding light on an incident that sparked outrage in America: the Emmett Till murder.
If you’re not familiar with the story of Emmett Till, he’s the 14-year-old African-American boy who was murdered for allegedly trying to flirt with a white woman. He was kidnapped, beaten, and shot by two white men, who were later acquitted of murdering him.
Via EW:
The pair, along with Jay Brown, James Lassiter, and Aaron Kaplan are executive producing an untitled miniseries about Emmett Till for HBO.
There are currently no writers attached to the miniseries. Roc Nation, Overbrook, and Kapital Entertainment are the production companies tied to the project.
This is a great way to help shed light on racism especially in a time in this country where racial tension is at an all time high. Emmett Till was murdered for NO reason. His life was taken away from him at such a young age. This miniseries can keep his legacy alive and also maybe open the eyes of some of this current generation today. Kudos to Will and Jay for making a miniseries about an innocent boy who didn’t get to live his life at full potential.
