Browns Have Discussed Bringing in Ray Rice

Rice

The Cleveland Browns organization have some pretty tough luck lately with some of their players on the offensive side of the football. So much the team has even considered signing Ray Rice?

Browns Coach Mike Pettine spoke on the Rice talks.

“We’ve talked about it, but I don’t think we’re there at this point,” head coach Mike Pettine said of signing Rice.

“Of course it’s a natural question here because of Wilbert, and because I was with Ray when he was a Ravens rookie (in 2008) and know a lot of people in Baltimore,” Pettine said. “Obviously Wilbert was his position coach for Ray’s first six years in the league (2008–13). I’m not going to say it didn’t come up in discussion, but at this point we’re not there yet.”

The Browns gave up on former 2012 Number 3 pick Trent Richardson by shipping him to the Indianapolis Colts early in the 2013 NFL season.

The Browns backfield have some young promising backs in Isaiah Crowell and Terrance West, but them alone can’t carry a team like Rice did for the Baltimore Ravens.

The familiarity with Pettine and Wilbert Montgomery in Baltimore could be a high risk that pays off.

However, I understand the doubt and bad attention Rice will draw from media outlets that could take away from a team that already has to deal with Johnny Manziel and Josh Gordon.

Will see what the Browns do after their NFL Preseason opener at home against the Washington Redskins.
