A Northern California police officer is now under fire after a video surfaced of him pulling his gun out on an innocent man.
Here are the details via The Daily Mail:
The footage shows a Rohnert Park public safety officer driving toward Don McComas and stopping outside his home as he is filming.
The officer looks like he jokingly starts to film him back before getting out of the police vehicle and telling McComas to take his hand out of his pocket.
A tense stand-off, lasting several minutes begins as McComas refuses, saying ‘I’ve done nothing’.
The officer can then be seen removing his gun from his holster and speaking into his radio as McComas says, ‘Put your gun down, really?’
Still filming, McComas can be seen backing away as the officer motions the gun toward him, while continuing to tell the officer he has done nothing wrong.
He asks the law enforcer why he got out the car and he replied: ‘You taking a picture of me. I am taking a picture of you.’
The exchange goes on for a while with the officer asking McComas: Why are you doing this?’ to which McComas responds: ‘Why are you sitting here with your gun on me? This is why I am doing this. To protect myself from you.’
McComas, who was not arrested or detained, told the officer he would post the video on YouTube to which he replied ‘I don’t really care’.
The video has since been viewed more than 200,000 times.
McComas is lucky to still be alive, especially with the ‘shoot first ask questions later’ mentality cops have been having lately. Cops are taking advantage of their position. They are really abusing their power. There was no reason for an officer to pull out a gun against someone recording him. Recording a police officer is legal. The police department has now launched an internal investigation into this incident. Hopefully, he will be fired and that will be one less crooked cop on the streets.
