I’m not sure this will keep players off the police blotter, but I guess it’s a start.
Clemson football players have been banned from posting or interacting on any kind of social media during the season according to USA Today.
The Clemson football team’s social media shutdown went into effect on Aug. 3, the first day of fall camp. Players don’t have to delete their social media accounts, but are forbidden from being active on them until season’s end.
The annual ban, which has become standard procedure for the Tigers over the past several seasons, is designed to keep the team focused on football and class rather than goofball and sass.
“It’s good that we shut it down,” Mac Lain, who as @mr_clemson has 2,098 Twitter followers. “I love interacting with people and it’s a great way to build our brand, but during the season you don’t need any of that. When something bad happens, people are going to come at you from all angles, which is unfortunate. You don’t need that negativity.”
Players don’t have to deactivate their accounts, but anything other than simple lurking will likely get you a seat on the bench.
