LeBron has perfected his craft of holding teams hostage. The Cavs and the Heat are no longer big enough for LeBron; he has moved onto the olympic level. Jerry Colangelo, USA Basketball Managing Director, has confirmed that LeBron has a spot on the team if he wants it.
During an interview with ESPN, Colangelo stated that he’s comfortable with LeBron taking his time to decide if he wants to join the team. He even shared that he doesn’t expect a decision from Lebron until after the upcoming NBA season.
“He will be in town during the course of the week. He will not be participating in any practices to the best of my knowledge, but … He knows he has a [roster] spot.”
Colangelo also chimed in on his beliefs on whether LeBron will take him up on his offer.
“If he wants to perform, and I believe deep down inside he does, then I would expect that he will be playing.”
I’m not shocked that the offer is on the table for LeBron, he’s arguably the best player of his era. He’s selfless super star and although the team should win gold with players such as KD, Blake Griffin, Kevin Love and Carmelo Anthony, having a complete player like LeBron with his experience does boost their odds.
